Suspect killed by police in Discovery Bay was armed with archery rifle: sheriff

A man fatally shot by law enforcement in Discovery Bay experienced allegedly pointed a rifle that shoots arrows at legislation enforcement in advance of they opened fire, according to the Contra Costa County sheriff’s business office. 

Robert Jones, 51, was identified as the armed person killed in the confrontation with sheriff’s deputies and Oakley police officers on Tuesday evening. 

The sheriff’s business mentioned they have been summoned to the household on Westport Circle to manage a “domestic disturbance” all-around 8:44 p.m.

A deputy originally tried to speak to Jones who was within the household, but he brandished a knife in excess of his head before pointing a weapon that seemed like a rifle at law enforcement. That prompted a team of deputies to retreat to basic safety, authorities claimed.

The face became deadly a limited time later on when Jones allegedly emerged from the residence, strolling in direction of officers with the rifle lifted.  After Jones disregarded commands to drop the weapon, deputies and officers opened hearth, according to the sheriff’s workplace. 

The weapon he was carrying was identified as a Umarex AirJavelin archery rifle, which “propels arrows up to 300 ft for each second,” in accordance to the sheriff. 

He was pronounced useless at a hospital.
